Men in relationships tend to beat their girlfriends to saying, “I love you.”

Contradicting the stereotype that guys keep their feelings close to the heart, a survey of 2000 men and women conducted by You Gov found that it takes the average man seven months before he tells a new partner that he loves her, whereas woman take almost eight months to make the proclamation.

These results don’t surprise clinical psychologist Oliver Jones, who believes that fellas are more likely to be “swept away” by a budding relationship. He says this is “because women mature sooner than men and develop to be more hard-nosed, realistic and in touch with their emotions.”

Another theory would be that these numbers are skewed by men who insincerely use the L-word early in relationships that haven’t progressed as much sexually as they would like.

I know which theory I agree with – what about you?
